Happy Birthday

Dear Lee Alexander McQueen,
Today is St. Patricks Day (well technically, it's not anymore since it's 1:30am) but more importantly it is your birthday! This saddens me a bit since you are no longer with us. But if you were here I'd like to wish you a very happy 41st birthday! I wish I could have told you that I was glad you were born! I'd bake you a cake and invite your favorite composer, Philip Glass to play for you! There is no one quite like you, Lee! You were so special and on this day, I celebrate how much you did for fashion alone! You challenged everyone to be more creative! Your shows are what I looked forward to. I knew even if other collections in the seasons failed to interest me or lacked vision, I knew you never ceased to amaze me.

Redefining Beauty

Dear Lee Alexander,
Dazed Digital has put up a post dedicated to you. It has an interview, articles and images from your past collaborations with Dazed and Confused. I especially like this image of Aimee Mullins with her prosthetic leg. You saw beauty in places that most people would consider a handicap. You saw past what everyone else considered a standard of what is sexy and beautiful. Thank you for always pushing boundaries and making us think "outside" the box. Thank you for redefining beauty.

Dear Lee Alexander,
I awoke in New York to discover the news of your death. I was shocked. Then in denial, then burdened with a sadness from the core of my heart. I don't understand why you chose to leave us. I don't understand why you felt so alone. I wish I could've met you to tell you how much you meant to this little designer heart of mine. There is no one like you. Your extraordinary mind and talent was what made me strive to be better and gave me faith again in Fashion. The Fashion World has lost a genius and I am filled with sadness but thankful for the gift of inspiration you gave to this world.
Good bye.
